How to play
The game
A chungi is a bundle of rubber bands tied tight in the middle. Kids play it in galli after galli and in every school ground in Nepal: keep it in the air with your feet while your friends count out loud, एक, दुई, तीन…
Every kick counts. If it touches the ground, your turn is over. The count is your score.
Kick
Your first tap tosses the chungi up, so take your time to get ready.
Tap the galli, the Kick button or Space as the chungi drops to your foot. The ring round it closes at the best height. On the galli, the moment your finger touches is what counts.
You get Perfect!, Good, or a poor kick: Early (it was still high), Late (it was nearly down) or Wide (it was off your foot). A Perfect kick goes high and straight. Early kicks pop it back behind you, late ones push it forward, and wide ones send it off sideways.
Tap when it is nowhere near your foot and you just swing at air. That costs nothing, but the chungi keeps falling.
Move
Drag left and right on the galli, hold ◀ ▶, or use ← → (or A, D). Stand so it comes down just in front of your foot. Watch its shadow.
The galli ends at the chautara on one side and the shrine on the other. To bring the chungi back towards the middle, take it a little behind your foot (it pops back) or use an inside-foot kick. Taking it a little ahead of your foot sends it forward.
Tricks
Knee: swipe up (or W, ↑). Hit it earlier, at knee height. A lower, straighter pop.
Inside foot: swipe left (or Q). Take it under your body. It goes back behind you.
Outside foot: swipe right (or E). Take it further out. It goes forward.
Heel: double-tap (or Space twice) with the chungi dropping behind you. It flicks up over your head and lands in front.
The trick buttons in the bar do the same. Bonus points: Knee 2, Inside and Outside 3, Heel 5, doubled for a Perfect. Any Perfect kick adds 1 more.
Chain: do different tricks one after another for a multiplier, up to ×5. The same trick twice starts a new chain. A plain kick or a poor kick ends it.
Getting harder
The timing gets tighter as your count goes up. From 15 kicks the wind starts to gust. The prayer flags, the leaves and the arrow at the top show which way it blows.
