How to play
The game
Flying kites is a big part of Dashain. In the weeks around the festival the sky over Kathmandu fills with kites, and from the rooftops you hear "Changa chet!" every time someone cuts a rival's string.
You fly the red and gold kite from your rooftop (marked YOU). Cut the other kites' strings and keep yours in one piece.
Flying your kite
Hold (anywhere on the sky, the Pull button, or Space) to pull: the kite flies the way its nose points (the white dots), and you wind in a little string.
Let go to give string (dheel): string runs off your reel, the kite drifts with the wind and sinks slowly, and its nose turns. It first swings back towards the sky, then keeps turning. Pull again when it points where you want to go.
The manjha meter shows the string left on your reel. More string lets you fly further and higher. When the reel is empty your kite just hangs on the wind.
Simple controls (switch them on in the menu): hold to climb, and drag left or right while you hold to steer (or ←→).
Pecha: the string fight
When your string crosses another kite's string they lock together. Sparks fly at the crossing and the meter in the dock turns into a tug-of-war.
Tanne (ड्याङ): quick, steady pulls, about three a second. Too fast or too slow is much weaker.
Dheel (ढिल): let go and keep letting go. It grows stronger the longer you hold steady, but only while there is string left on your reel.
Holding a long pull barely helps. The needle moves towards whoever is winning: reach the end and the other string snaps. After 6 seconds the string of whoever is behind gives way.
Good rhythm beats dheel, and dheel beats sloppy pulling.
Loot and points
Cut kites flutter down over the city. Touch one with your string before it lands to loot it: +50.
+100 for every kite you cut. Cut again within 4 seconds for a combo (Double chet!), worth +50 more for each extra kite.
A small bonus, +2 a second, while your kite is in the high sky (the gold part of the height meter).
Modes
Dashain Sky: endless. Cut kites are flown again from their roofs and the rivals get sharper. It ends when your kite is cut. Your best score is saved on this device.
Battle: you and 3 rivals, 3 rounds. Nothing is flown again: the last kite flying wins the round (+200). Most rounds won takes the battle; points break ties. After 2 minutes the best score among the kites still flying takes the round. If you are cut, watch or press Skip.
Rivals: hunters chase strings and pull hard, cautious flyers keep away and like to dheel, wanderers roam the sky.
